Reconditioned Citroen Relay Engines

A reconditioned engine can offer a useful balance of preparation, availability and longer qualifying warranty—but the word “reconditioned” is not a complete specification. We help match UK Relay owners with independent workshops that can identify the correct diesel engine, explain what has been prepared and provide written supply or fitting terms.

What is a reconditioned Relay engine?

A reconditioned engine is a used core that has been dismantled, inspected and prepared to a workshop-defined standard before supply or fitting. The exact machining, new components, reused components and testing vary. Always judge the engine by its written specification, compatibility, provider and warranty—not by the word “reconditioned” alone.

What to Ask Before Buying

Ask the supplying workshop to confirm: A written answer gives you something meaningful to compare.

exact engine identification and compatibility

what was dismantled, measured or machined

which components are new, renewed or reused

what testing was completed

whether ancillaries are included

whether the engine is supply-only or fitted

core-return or exchange conditions

warranty length, start date, servicing rules and claims process

Supply Only or Supplied and Fitted

Supply Only

Suitable where you already have a competent garage. Compatibility, delivery condition, fitting requirements and warranty activation must be agreed before dispatch.

Supplied And Fitted

Suitable where one workshop will confirm the vehicle, provide the engine, complete fitting and issue the job warranty. Recovery can be added for non-running vans.

Up to Three Years’ Unlimited-Mileage Cover

Qualifying reconditioned engines may carry up to three years’ unlimited-mileage warranty. “Up to” means the actual duration depends on the engine, workshop, service route and written terms. The independent workshop issues the warranty and must explain covered components, servicing obligations, exclusions and claim steps before booking.

Correct Matching Is Essential

A 2.2-litre description is not enough to confirm fitment. Relay engines differ by generation, engine code, power output, emissions equipment and fitting details. Provide the registration and, where available, the Reg no. and engine code. The supplying workshop should confirm compatibility in writing before dispatch or fitting.

Availability and Turnaround

Where a suitable prepared unit is available, a reconditioned replacement may reduce waiting compared with rebuilding the customer’s damaged engine from the beginning. Many eligible fitted jobs are completed within up to five working days from arrival, subject to diagnosis, stock, parts, authorisation and additional work.

Reconditioned Engine FAQs

No. Qualifying engines may receive up to three years; the workshop confirms the actual cover.

Yes, where a compatible unit and suitable supply-only terms are available.
Is fitting included in the engine price?
Only when the workshop’s quotation expressly includes it.
